Al-Ahsa 2nd Industrial City will create job opportunities for both men and women

MODON has initiated works for planning and development of the first industrial city being readied for women workers in the Kingdom. It will be launched in Al-Ahsa 2nd Industrial city which is located in Hofuf near Al-Ahsa airport.

According to preliminary studies, the area allocated for Al-Ahsa 2nd will accommodate approximately 50 industrial projects. MODON will provide land at discounted rates to businessmen and businesswomen to establish their industrial or service projects. They will have the option to choose the type of industry on specific terms of preservation of the environment and safety of workers. Special sections and production halls will be reserved for women within the factory, i. e, the city is not closed or not intended for women only.

MODON is working on designing and planning the industrial city with specifications and standards of excellence and will be the first model of its kind. MODON will work to spread this model in every city of the Kingdom’s regions where land is available to set up specialized city designed for investors and entrepreneurs. The city is distinguished from other industrial cities for its proximity to residential neighborhoods to facilitate the movement of women to and from the workplace. It is also characterized by allocating sections equipped for women workers in environment and working conditions consistent with the privacy of women according to Islamic guidelines and regulations.

This comes after the decision of the approval of the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Prince Dr. Mansour bin Miteb bin Abdulaziz, who adopted the planned allocation of a new industrial city in Hofuf, governorate of Al-Ahsa, implementing the decision of the Council of Ministers approving the rules for determining urban boundaries of the Kingdom cities, allocation of land and areas within the city limits and for establishing industrial projects where women work.

For his part, Acting Director General of Saudi Industrial Property Authority Eng. Saleh Al-Rasheed confirmed that MODON is currently working on establishing an industrial city suitable for women to work in, pointing that Saudi women have the ability to enter the labor market and invest in the industrial sector, indicating that women can prove their efficiency in many light industrial and clean sectors which suit their investment and industrial trends.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Industrial Property Authority (MODON) was established in 2001. MODON is responsible for the development of integrated service lands, where MODON has established industrial cities in various regions of the Kingdom and currently oversees 29 existing or underdevelopment cities which include: Riyadh (1st, 2nd & 3rd), Jeddah (1st, 2nd & 3rd), Dammam (1st., 2nd & 3rd), Makkah, Qassim 1st. , Al-Ahsa, Al-Madinah, Al-Kharj, Sudair, Ha'il, Tabuk, Ar'ar, Al-Jouf, Assir, Jazan, Najran, Al-Baha, Qassim 2nd,Taif, Al-Zulfi, Shaqraa and Hafr Al-Batin. There are cities under planning and designing stages as well, which include Salwa, Dhuba, Al-Baha 2nd, Military industries and Jeddah 4th. It is targeted that during the coming five years, the number of industrial cities shall reach 40 industrial cities with developed industrial lands of not less than 160 million square meters.
